Ausra Vaskeviciene, Head of Administration of the LMBA Consortium participated at the conference "Scholarly investigations in the context of information and knowledge" held at Vilnius University. The 10th international conference "INFOBAL 2008" was held in Vilnius. Librarians from the LMBA libraries presented several papers at the section "Creation of electronic information infrastructure and services for research, education, society and business". Conference proceedings (in Lithuanian).

E.Banionyte participated at EBSCO European Advisory Board meeting held in Sevilla (Spain).

4-9 November

ICOLC Fall 2008 European Meeting was held in Munich (Germany). LMBA was represented by president E.Banionyte and head of administration A.Vaskeviciene.

A seminar on Open Access was held at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science, Science Council of Lithuania, Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education and Lithuanian Research Libraries Consortium. The EBLIDA (European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations) EGIL(Experts Group on Information Law) member Emilija Banionyte participated at the meeting held in Venice, Italy.

1-5 October

President of the LMBA Emilija Banionyte participated at the Third A2K (Access to Knowledge) conference held in Geneva, Switzerland and presented a paper "Why exceptions and limitations are important for libraries and development".

7-16 August

74rd IFLA annual conference "Libraries without borders: Navigating towards global understanding" was held in Quebec City, Canada. eIFL.net supported participation of LMBA President E.Banionyte who presented a paper "Access to on-line resources in social sciences in Lithuania".

John Thislis - ProQuest CSA Regional Sales Director for Northern & Eastern Europe visited Lithuanian librarians in Vilnius and Kaunas and presented ProQuest CSA databases.

Dr. Paul Evans - Elsevier representative - visited Lithuania and hold a meeting to discuss possible future colaboration. Dr. Giedrius Viliunas, prof. Eugenijus Butkus, dr. Stanislovas Zurauskas, dr. Eugenijus Stumbrys, Emilija Banionyte were present at the meeting.

14th INFORUM conference was held in Prague (Czech Republic). LMBA was represented by Dzienara Kaunaite (Klaipeda University Library), Aurelija Striogiene (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Library) and Jevgenija Sevcova (Lithuanian Research Library Consortium).

12 - 16 May

Jörn Hope - representative of Walters Kluwer - OvidSP was visiting libraries in Lithuania, had a meeting with headquarters of the LMBA consortium. He presented new platform OvidSP and the products it can offer. Power point presentation.

13 May

The seminar "Publishing and Electronic resources in general" was held in Martynas Mazvydas Nationalal Library of Lithuania and Library of Kaunas University of Technology.Presenter Yann Amouroux. Seminar power point presentation.

7 May

Under the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science, with the help of the Lithuanian Research Libraries Consortium a meeting on Open Access in European Union and Lithuania was held at the office of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. 28 April

Ausra Vaskeviciene - Head of Administration of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium was nominated The Best Librarian of the Year 2007, prof. Audrone Glosiene - Director General of Vilnius University Library was nominated The Best Library Leader of the Year 2007, Loreta Burbaite - Director of Siauliai Univeristy Library got a special Joint Stock Company "Sintagma" award. The award ceremony took place in the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, which is the founder of the two above mentioned awards.

21-22 April

The international symposium The Book in the Internet Era: Copyright and the Future for Authors, Publishers and Libraries took place in Amsterdam (Holland). LMBA was represented by president E.Banionyte.

17-18 April

A. Vaskeviciene participated in eIFL.net project coordinators meeting in Minsk (Belarus).

8 April

SCOPUS seminar was held at the Republic of Lithuania Ministry of Education and Science. Presenters - Ove Kähler and Arthur J. Eger.

4-5 April

E. Banionyte participated at the first global eIFL-IP conference held in Istambul (Turkey).

15-23 March

A group of librarians and IT specialists from Armenia visited Lithuanian Research Libraries Consortium. Their goals were to find out how electronic information is subscribed, virtual library model is created and Open Access initiative is supported. The visit was funded by the East-East programme of the Open Society Institute.

12 October

The seminar "Building up a cooperative digital information service - DigiAuskunft" was held in Vilnius University Library. The speaker - Hans-Christian Wirtz, Head of Information and Electronic Resources Department, Dortmund City and Regional Library, an active player in the establishment of a digital information service by the 180 academic and public libraries of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Google Schoolar representative Christian DiCarlo presented research journals digitization project for Lithuanian publishers and librarians. Presentation took place at Vilnius Pedagogical University.

73rd IFLA annual conference "World Library and Information Congress "Libraries for the future: Progress, Development and Partnerships" was held in Durban, South Africa. LMBA supported participation of LMBA President E.Banionyte.

28 June

Representatives from Elsevier Dr. Paul Evans and Barbara Kalumenos came to Vilnius to meet with representatives of LMBA consortium, Lithuanian Academic Publishers' Association and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania to discuss future of scientific communication and evaluation of science. The meeting took place at the Vilnius Pedagogical University Library.

The winners: Meile Kretaviciene (The Best Librarian of the Year) - library director of Kaunas University of Medicine, Jurate Malasauskiene (Inducement Award) - library directos of Vilnius College of Construction and Design and Birute Butkeviciene (Inducement Award) - deputy director of Vilnius University Library.

6 March

New building of the Kaunas University of Medicine Library was opened.

15-16 February

Emilija Banionyte participated at the conference Scientific Publishing in the European Research Area: Access, Dissemination and Preservation in the Digital Age held ir Brusseles by the EC.

Meile Kretaviciene - library director of Kaunas University of Medicine was aworded with a premium of the Ministry of Culture for the outstanding activities in the fields of library science, bibliography, book science and practical work in the library. Meile was nominated for the premium by the LMBA Consortium.
